98 Food Co. is a team of entrepreneurs and tastemakers. Since 1998, we’ve been creating & developing fast casual food concepts. We form creative partnerships with individuals in the food industry who have talent, energy, and integrity. Together, we introduce new brands that fill a niche in the food marketplace. Menu development, branding, interior design, real estate negotiations, operational management & experience with mergers and acquisitions – that’s what we bring to the table.

Derek Brock and Jason Cunningham first met in the late 90’s, while working as baristas at Starbucks Coffee. After forming a strong friendship, they partnered to open the first ever Jugo Juice, in 1998. The Jugo Juice brand was a pioneer in the smoothie and juice industry, and grew to 138 stores across the country, prior to the company being acquired in 2011.
In 2007, Derek and Jason cofounded Chachi’s. A gourmet sandwich, made with local ingredients, served in a vintage butcher shop environment. The company currently has locations throughout Canada, and is raising the bar for fast casual food.
In 2015, the first Dirtbelly location opened in Calgary. The fast casual concept is based on gourmet veg salads, grain bowls, fresh greens, bacos, tealadas, and healthy snacks.
Launched in Fall 2017, Hula Poké is bringing sun, sea and superfoods to the table. The menu includes fresh Poké bowls with international flavours, kombucha, and fabulously fun snacks.
We’re proud to announce that the Deville Coffee brand is now part of the 98 Food Co. family, as of August 2017. Bringing their incredibly high standards to the coffee scene in Calgary, Paul Brassard and Mark Nolan, Deville’s co-founders, have grown Deville throughout the city.

Food dreamer & ‘5 years from now’ visionary, Jason is co-founder of 98 who focuses on new business development, as well as dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s.
Chief Team Builder and Risk + Reward Pilot, Derek is co-founder of 98 Food Co., who’s passions include Menu Development, New Store Development and Real Estate.
Keeping everything on track, Ronnie is the Corporate Navigator and proud “To Do List” guy. Among other things, Ronnie oversees day-to-day business for the company, and Team Leadership for 98 Food Co.

Spencer knows where to find the best local ingredients, and combine them into amazing recipes. You can usually find Spencer where he feels most at home, in the kitchen exploring a world of creative ingredients for our team.
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Wray has spent the majority of his life in the food and hospitality industry, starting with family-owned restaurants at an early age. Having worked with some of Canada’s top restaurant brands, he brings to 98 operational excellence, and passion for training our team.
Karen counts the “beans” for 98, along with real-life restaurant ownership herself for years, and time invested in the finance world also. Her diverse background allows her to lead the finances of our dynamic company.
